Bryn Mawr Vineyards was purchased by Jon and Kathy Lauer as a tiny garagiste winery in 2009. With a 4 acre foundation of established Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Tempranillo vines, they partnered with winemaker Rachel Rose to diversify the site, adding Pinot Blanc, Dolcetto, and Riesling vines among many new clones of the aforementioned standards. Wine was made between Jon’s basement and a former wedding tent for 8 vintages. In 2018, our new winery facility was completed, followed by a new tasting room in 2019. The last decade has brought us national recognition for our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay programs, but it’s our playfully experimental side that has made us beloved locally. We act as an important bridge, honoring the wines that make our valley world-renowned while pushing the envelope for what’s possible.
Perched at 870 ft. on the upper crest of the acclaimed Eola-Amity Hills, our LIVE Certified Sustainable vineyard is often battered by powerful wind sweeping through the Van Duzer corridor from the Pacific Coast. Our vines are anchored into rocky, steep, and fast-draining volcanic soils, testing the upper limit of Willamette Valley viticulture. This unforgiving exposure produces powerful characters across our wines. Our whites and pinks are nervy, acid-driven, and refreshingly crisp even in the hottest of vintages, while our reds are bold, edgy, and dense. It also gives us one of the most dramatic views in the valley, with the Cascades, the Coast Range, and endless rolling hills as far as the eye can see.
